Enrichment Volunteer
BEHAVIOR DEPARTMENT ENRICHMENT VOLUNTEER
Position for anyone 13 years and older. 13-15 years old needs to volunteer with an adult. 16 years and older can volunteer on their own.
Behavior Department Enrichment Volunteers will support the animal behavior department by making and handing out enrichment to the animals. These volunteers will be responsible for tracking and assessing animal engagement with the enrichment toy offered.
Objective
Assist the Wisconsin Humane Society behavior department staff to improve behavioral health of the dogs in care by creating and handing out enrichment items that promote rest and foraging behaviors
Duties - Making enrichment:
- Kongs
- Paper towel tubes
- Cardboard boxes
- Paper bags
- Frozen ice bowls
- Scent items
- Diet specific frozen treats when needed
- Cut up hot dogs
Additional Duties:
- Distributing enrichment items to dogs in lodging and adoption
- Report any medical or behavioral concerns to staff using FYI slips
- Track if each dog engaged with their enrichment item and what the item was
- Properly clean and sanitize reusable enrichment items

Shift:
Shifts are typically 1.5-2 hours from 10:30am-12:30pm and 4pm-6pm
