Emergency Transport Volunteer
Emergency Transport Volunteer | Racine & Kenosha
The Emergency Transport Volunteer provides transportation for injured, potentially critically, stray animals who require emergency veterinary care after-hours at our Racine and Kenosha Campuses.
Objective
To provide transportation for stray animals who require after-hours veterinary care when the local emergency facility is unavailable.
Position context
With the national veterinary shortage, some of our after-hours emergency veterinary partners reduced service hours, which creates a gap in care and service for animals who need that care after traditional business hours. The animals who most often need transport are stray animals who are injured or need stabilizing support until they can be transferred to a WHS campus the following business day or reunited with their families. To ensure these animals continue to receive the care they need, we’re looking for volunteers who are willing to be on-call and provide transport for these critical cases to the nearest open emergency veterinary partner.

Are there opportunities to reach out to the current volunteers that drive for our transfer program? I met with Tony yesterday and wondered if this may be a good resource to consider. [CB1]
Great idea! We can send it to transport vols and all vols at our southern campuses. [LD2]
It might be worth running their driving history thru our insurance or checking with our insurance on if that should be our process. These vols are obviously driving their own vehicles, which reduces our risk/exposure some, but since they're being recruited specifically for 'emergency driving' our insurance may have some input on that. [MW3]
I understood this to be our intent from our last discussion even though they are not driving our vehicles. [AK4]

[LD6]Lily mentioned she goes to BluePearl for her animals, and they close at 7pm. She wasn't sure if we should keep on the list.
