Volunteer Opportunities

Food Pantry Support

Volunteer Opportunity: Food Pantry Support

Join Heart of Hope in feeding our community! We’re looking for reliable and energetic volunteers to assist with our weekly Food Pantry operations every Thursday.

Tasks may include:

  • Unloading food deliveries (late morning)

  • Setting up and tearing down pantry stations (afternoon/evening)

  • Picking, packing, and distributing food to the public (distribution runs from 4–6pm)

Volunteers should be able to lift up to 40 lbs (though most items are lighter). We welcome individuals who can help with one or more parts of the day depending on the week’s needs.

This is a hands-on opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families facing food insecurity.

Clothing Ministry

Clothing Ministry

Collecting clothing for those in need is vitally important.

A person's sense of self-esteem is tied into how they look. Everyone deserves to have decent, clean clothing to wear. We collect and provide clothing for everyone - men, women, and children.

We provide everything we can, from winter coats and shoes to everyday clothing.

Food Delivery Driver

Volunteer Opportunity: Food Delivery Driver

Help bring nourishment and care directly to the doorsteps of elderly and disabled neighbors in need! Heart of Hope is seeking dependable volunteer drivers to assist with food deliveries every other Friday, typically between 8am–1pm.

Deliveries are made to homes in Rock Island and  throughout the greater Quad City area. Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to use their own vehicle (mileage can be reimbursed for gas).

This is a meaningful way to serve some of our most vulnerable community members with both food and compassion.

After School Program

Volunteer Opportunity: After-School Youth Program Assistant

Make a difference in the lives of children through mentorship, encouragement, and fun! Heart of Hope is looking for caring and enthusiastic volunteers to support our after-school youth program for ages 7–12, held every Wednesday from 2:30pm – 4:00pm during the school year only.

The program takes place at Church of Peace, 1114 12th Street, Rock Island, and includes structured activities such as games, snacks, crafts, and character-building lessons.

Volunteers will help supervise, engage with children, and assist with activities that foster a positive, safe, and uplifting environment. This is a great opportunity to inspire and invest in the next generation.

Please note: All volunteers working with children must sign a consent form and agree to be fingerprinted at the Rock Island Police Department for background clearance.

Tutoring

Volunteer Opportunity: Homework Help Tutor

Make a lasting impact in the life of a child! Heart of Hope is seeking compassionate and flexible volunteers to support our Homework Help tutoring program, serving children ages 7–17. Volunteers will assist students with general studies and academic support during afterschool hours and within Heart of Hope’s business hours (Monday – Thursday, 9am–4pm), based on the students’ availability.

Tutors are needed throughout the school year only, and available hours will be posted on our volunteer calendar.

This is a wonderful opportunity to help at-risk youth thrive and grow academically — truly a gift that keeps on giving!

Please note: All volunteers working with children must sign a consent form and agree to be fingerprinted at the Rock Island Police Department for background clearance.

Hope and Healing for the Hurting

Heart of Hope Ministries Mission is to help those in need in Rock Island ad the greater Quad City area of Illinois & Iowa.  Our vision is to revitalize Rock Island neighborhoods and provide opportunities that empower individuals to become self-sufficient, and equip them for future generational success.
