Living Before Dying project coordinator

The 'Living before Dying' project is an initiative created to cater to retirees by providing volunteers with the opportunity to share their expertise with residents at our long-term care site. The aim of this project is to shift the focus from dying to living. Both from the retirees perspective by giving them a new purpose in life, but also for our residents to be given a new burst of energy that helps propel their daily living. Volunteers are provided with resources and training to contribute their expertise and skills to focus on improving the quality of life for our residents. This could include designing, running and implementing a Men's group (weekly discussions), a Gardening initiative or any other great idea that our residents can be involved with!

Through social contact, the volunteer will contribute purpose and value to the resident's life. The volunteer will stimulate the resident's interest and awareness of the outside world by bringing in skills and resources from the community into the facility. This will provide volunteers with the opportunity to initiate, create and manage activities for residents!

Volunteer will creatively and thoughtfully develop friendships with residents, some of which can last many years. Volunteers with the LBD project will encourage and restore the resident's faith in themselves as well as their dignity and self-worth.
