Volunteer Board Member

Board members are responsible for the governance of the organization, which has 4 staff and an ongoing complement of 70 to 80 active volunteers. In 2024, 81 different people volunteered with the organization.

Our current board recruitment priorities are:

  • Individuals with Restorative Justice expertise and experience.
  • Persons who work or volunteer in victim services or someone with lived experience as a harmed person. Ideally the person would have some understanding of the criminal legal system and of restorative justice.
  • People who work or volunteer with youth and/or young adults at risk of gang or criminal justice involvement.

The Board of Directors meets bi-monthly for two hours (Sept, Nov, Jan, Mar, May and June) and each member is also asked to participate in one of the board committees. All meetings of the board are hybrid, meaning though members are encouraged to attend in-person, a virtual meeting option is always available.

Board committee meetings are scheduled for 1.5 hours and are held online. Board committees meet bimonthly (Oct, Dec, Feb, April, and sometimes in late August). Current board committees are:

  • 30th Anniversary
  • Communications and Community Engagement
  • Executive
  • Finance
  • Human Resources and Nominations
  • Restorative Justice Best Practice

Board members should expect a monthly time commitment of 3.5 to 5 hours a month, between reviewing meeting packages and then participation in those meetings. An orientation and onboarding session is provided to all new board members after the June Annual General Meeting.
