School-Year Team Service Opportunities
FY25 Team Service Program Descriptions
East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) offers a variety of volunteer opportunities through our public charter schools, after-school, and summer programs. The programs range from subject-matter tutoring, providing scholars with homework help, and mentoring during enrichment activities. Volunteers support our scholars, prepare them for academic success, encourage their social enrichment, and help them gain skills to be successful in school and in life.

Classroom Buddies, Elementary School & Middle School Programs -Volunteers support one of our Kindergarten-8th grade after-school classrooms at one of our 3 locations (East Harlem Scholars Academy I, East Harlem Scholars Academy II, or P.S. 171 Patrick Henry Preparatory). You will foster a positive classroom culture by:

Supporting with operational tasks i.e. taking attendance and grading

Engaging in fun classroom enrichment activities with scholars

Completing homework assignments alongside scholars during an academic enrichment period called Road to Success
Minimum Commitment: 1 shift per week
When: Start and end times dependent on site and when you can arrive. See below for specifics:

East Harlem Scholars Academy I & II: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays, 3:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

P.S. 171 Patrick Henry Preparatory: Mondays-Fridays, 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Classroom Buddies, High School Program - Volunteers support a high school after-school elective (Graphic Arts, Photography, Robotics, Creative Writing, Coding, or DIY) by:

Supporting with operational tasks i.e. taking attendance, reviewing student work, and troubleshooting tech issues

Modeling a positive classroom culture by supporting activities, building relationships with scholars, and engaging them with class content

Collaborating with elective teachers to ensure engaging instruction
Minimum Commitment: 1 shift per week
When: Mondays - Thursdays, 4:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (volunteers choose times and days that work for them)
Academic Tutoring - Volunteers support our 9-12th grade scholars succeed in various subjects (Math, English, Science, History), while in a one-on-one setting. Volunteers should feel confident tutoring and have demonstrated success in a 9th-12th grade level subject.
Minimum Commitment: 1 shift per week for at least 1-hour per semester
When: Mondays or Thursdays, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
