Judicial Intern

Position Summary:
The Judicial Intern provides administrative support to the Municipal Court by conducting legal research, assisting with the reviewing and indexing of current court policies and administrative directives, and reviewing applicable Texas laws governing municipal court operations. This internship offers practical experience in judicial administration, court procedures, and municipal law.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research on the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and other applicable Texas statutes, case law, and legal authorities.
  • Assist in organizing, indexing and editing administrative directives, court policies, and standard operating procedures under the direct supervision of the Presiding Judge.
  • Prepare administrative memoranda, summaries, and reports for judicial and court administrative staff.
  • Assist with policy development to improve court efficiency, compliance, and procedural consistency under the direct supervision of the Presiding Judge.
  • Maintain confidentiality of court records and sensitive legal information.
  • Perform other legal and administrative duties as assigned by the Municipal Court Judges or other Judiciary staff.

Qualifications:

  • Current law student or undergraduate student pursuing a degree in political science, criminal justice, legal studies, public administration, or a related field.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret statutes, regulations, and judicial opinions.
  • Proficiency with legal research resources and Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Work schedule:  8 weeks and 4 hours a day (morning from 8:00 – 12:00 or afternoon from 1:00 – 5:00).
