Do you enjoy being outdoors and getting your hands dirty? Join us every Wednesday in the Villawood Community Garden for tips and tricks about gardening and composting while making friends. Our aim is to support community members who may be of disadvantage by helping them grow their own food while also helping them on their way to other employment opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with residents and community members
- Helping other members with their gardening patch if they are just starting out or need assistance in completing various jobs.
- General labour
- Garden bed upkeep
- General upkeep of the garden
The Villawood Community Garden isn’t just about planting and composting; it is a place where residents, services and volunteers come together, build relationships and learn about healthy eating. The volunteer position allows individuals to give back to the community and those who may be less fortunate and offer a sense of belonging and equality to the Villawood region.

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
The Villawood Community Garden are looking for volunteers who are passionate about promoting peace, intercultural understanding, and sustainability. Most gardening activities we run focus on engaging, educating, empowering disadvantaged residents to increase their community connections, develop horticulture & nutrition skills. Volunteers need the ability to undertake tasks with minimal supervision and language spoken other than English is highly desirable. Possible accredited horticulture certificate can be obtained with enough volunteer interest in the future.
- An interest in gardening
- Interest in helping and working with others
- Ability to work independently and within a group environment
- Gardening gloves and a hat
Volunteers will be directed and shown where tools and equipment is placed and how to use them. There will always be supervision provided and help available for any questions.
