Volunteer Opportunities

Warehouse Worker

The Warehouse Worker role is a practical role sorting and packaging recovered food from supermarkets and bakeries (safe food handling) plus general warehouse duties. 

Volunteering onsite at our warehouse at 24a Harrington Rd Warrnambool, this role would suit those who want to assist fellow members of our community, while working in a friendly team orientated environment with lots of variety.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Sorting and packaging recovered food from supermarkets and bakeries (safe food handling) 
  • Restocking
  • Packaging and labelling items including fresh produce, bakery items, laundry powder, toilet paper, pet food etc
  • General warehouse cleaning

Required Skills / Attributes / Qualifications:

Admin and data gem

The Admin and data gem role involves general admin tasks and may be performed at the warehouse office or at your home.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Information management including data entry, running reports, analysing data, attaching documents (soft and hard copies) and filing
  • Conducting research
  • Assisting with mail outs
  • Photocopying, scanning, laminating, faxing, collating, sorting

Social Media Guru

if you are passionate about social media and have an eye for branding consistency and clear messaging one role is for you.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Provide digital support as required
  • Provide technical guidance on Google Analytics i.e. outlining useful features, creating goals, dashboard set-up, tracking codes
  • Review existing Google Ads and offer advice

Woodshed Helper

The Woodshed Helper role is a flexible role helping to cut and package donated wood offcuts for our fundraiser and delivering bagged firewood to Maceys.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Cut and package donated wood offcuts
  • Deliver bagged firewood to Maceys

Driver (Transit van) or Co Driver

Driver (Transit van) or co driver – our daily two up team complete a designated run to our partner supermarkets and bakeries rescuing food donations, this role suits those who like an early start and a good chat.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Driving Western District vehicles for the purpose of collection of food from supermarkets and other various locations (Driver)
  • Riding in Western District vehicles along side a driver for the purpose of collection of food from supermarkets and other various locations (co-driver)
  • Loading and unloading of vehicles at the collection and receiving end
  • Manual handling / lifting  (loading and unloading tasks)
  • Weighing and accurate recording of goods in the warehouse donation log
  • Following WH&S guidelines as directed

  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence (manual)
  • Good Communication Skills

Emergency Food Hamper Packer

The Emergency food hamper packer is a practical hands-on role packing emergency food hampers to order for our agencies and schools, it’s just like going shopping.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Packing of emergency food hampers
  • Manual handling (lifting)
  • Following WH&S guidelines as directed

  • Good communication skills
  • Good work ethic – ability to work as part of a team

Established in 2013 and designated as a Regional Food Hub in 2020 we are a founding member of the Regional Food Security Alliance in partnership with Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo and Shepperton Food Shares, Geelong Food Relief Centre and SMECC, collectively addressing food insecurity. Our mission is to operate a highly effective and sustainable service that provides food to be distributed to our partners across south west Victoria.
