East London Library - Technology Tutor
A Technology Tutor assists patrons using word processing software, email applications, social media, and cloud-based applications. This is to be done at Library locations, either in a classroom setting or on a one-to-one basis at a pre-determined time.
For volunteers with these skills, they will be able to assist with the setup and basic functions of patrons’ personal gadgets. This includes, but is not limited to, devices such as laptops*, ereaders*, tablets*, smart phones, and digital cameras
Time Commitment: 2 hours, weekly shift
Age requirement: 14+
Meeting dates/times: This role has a negotiable schedule based on branch needs and volunteers available.
Tasks & responsibilities:
- Direct patrons to log in access and orient people to processes that already exist
- Assist patrons on an individual basis with word processing software and email applications, or other applications
- Assist with basic setup and functions of patrons’ personal devices (i.e. Laptops, e-readers, tablets, smartphones, digital cameras)
- Assist with web-based applications such as Google Docs, Zoom, Microsoft360, etc.
Skills & qualifications:
- Experience of interest in training others on mobile devices
- Intermediate or advanced knowledge of word processing software, email applications
- Intermediate of advanced knowledge of social media sites and cloud-based applications, technology peripherals (i.e. USB ports)
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively to a diverse group of patrons, with a focus on the English language
- Experience working with people of all ages and skill levels with technology
- Excellent customer service skills
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check for 18+
Training & Other requirements:
- Training will be provided at the library as needed
