English Conversation Mentor ( Volunteers must be 19+)
Our English Conversation Mentors provide support and encouragement to an adult who wants to practice their new English skills in a casual, social situation. The emphasis is on social conversation, not on teaching, so our pairs talk about their families, food, London and whatever else they may have in common
Time Commitment: 2 hrs per week
- 1 hour each week, plus preparation time.
- 10-month commitment required. (October - July) training taking place in August or September
Responsibilities
- meet with partner at a mutually convenient time at Central Library
- work with partner to develop plan for sessions
- prepare topics for discussion or materials for use in the session
- refer partner's questions to Library staff when appropriate
- talk with Library staff regarding resources as required
Requirements and Qualifications
- fluent in English
- understanding of the difficulties involved with learning a new language
- sensitive to the needs of other cultures and newcomers to Canada
