I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy.
I am sending out this email to update you on returning to your volunteering duties with us at the Gateway of Hope.
We miss you all and are very happy to welcome everyone back with a few changes that we hope will continue to keep everyone safe and healthy.
There have not been any cases of COVID-19 at the Gateway of Hope, and we endeavor to ensure we provide a safe environment for our guests, volunteers, partners, and staff. We recognize there is always a risk, but we will continue to follow the necessary safety and health protocols given to us by our Provincial Health Officer and Health Minister.
Everyone at the Gateway of Hope is asked to adhere to the following rules and guidelines:
• Practicing good hygiene by washing hands often (for at least 20 seconds with soap)
• Practice social distancing by maintaining 3 M or 6 feet distance between yourself and others
• Avoid touching your face with your hands
• Proper sneezing/coughing technique (into elbow)
• Encouraging those who feel sick with flu-like or cold symptoms to remain at home
• Regularly sanitizing high touch point surfaces
There have been specific changes put in place for our kitchen and shelter volunteers to help us conform to the necessary safety and health guidelines. Going forward, the number of volunteers in the kitchen will be no more than four volunteers at any given time, while the shelter will be limited to one person per shift. This helps us to ensure proper social distancing.
For now, I will be doing the volunteer scheduling manually so I am asking everyone that wishes to be placed back on the volunteer schedule in the kitchen and shelter to please email me this week with the days and times that they would like to volunteer. The shift times and days remain the same for both departments. Due to the need for social distancing, we are no longer allowing volunteering on a drop-in basis. You will need to on the schedule in order to volunteer.
Please know how much we value and appreciate all of you for your continued support of the Gateway of Hope during these difficult times. It is because of our amazing volunteers and partners that we are able to provide life-changing services to those who need it the most. So THANK YOU for all that you do and continue to do for us!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
I am really looking forward to seeing everyone again :-)
