Freedom Centre Youth Drop-In Support
The Freedom Centre is WAAC’s LGBTIQA+ youth program based in Leederville. Freedom Centre provides young LGBTIQA+ people aged 12 – 25 with services and a safe and welcoming space to socialise and participate in fun activities. Services include Youth Drop-In, special events, outreach activities, art-based workshops and counselling. Volunteers support staff with Youth Drop-In on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3.30pm till 8pm. Volunteers must be aged 19+ and openly identify as a member of the LGBTIQA+ community. Duties include supervising young people at the Centre, facilitating safe and healthy discussions, and coordinating activities. Volunteers are asked to commit to a weekly shift for a minimum of 6 months. Volunteers may schedule their preferred weekly shifts on a monthly basis with staff. New volunteers are trained in youth work practice, workplace health and safety, emergency response procedures and Freedom Centre’s policies. All prospective volunteers will undergo an interview and screening process which includes a Working with Children’s Check. In addition to supporting staff at the Youth Drop-In, volunteers will have the opportunity to assist with community outreach and events.
