Point Defiance Park - Work Party at Hillside by Pearl Street Entrance along Park Ave.
Blackberry Removal Volunteer Day!
Himalayan blackberry has taken over sections of the hillside at Point Defiance Park, choking out native plants and blocking wildlife habitat.
Your help is needed to cut it back to let the native understory grow!
What to Bring
- Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots
- Long pants and long sleeves (blackberry thorns are no joke)
- Work gloves, if you have them
- Water bottle and sun protection
- Enthusiasm for getting your hands dirty!
What We'll Provide
- Loppers, pruners, and removal tools
- Extra gloves for anyone who needs them
- Guidance from park staff / restoration leads
Why It Matters
Removing blackberry will open up space for native plants to thrive again — improving habitat for birds and pollinators and helping restore the hillside's natural balance.
Every bramble pulled makes a visible difference! Everyone is welcome to join!
