School & Camp Programs Support
Position Title: School & Camp Programs Support
Position Category: Education & Interpretation (80 hours/year service requirement)
Purpose:
To support the Education Department in educating students using fun, interactive curricula in camps and school programming, incorporating science standards and conservation messages.
Duties:
- School & Group Greeter:
- Report to designated supervisor at the beginning of the shift
- Facilitate communication between Education Staff and group arrivals, assist with group identification and crowd control
- Provide greeting and introduction to the zoo for all participants and fill out engagement reports with education department
- School Program Support:
- Report to designated supervisor at the beginning of the shift
- Assist with collecting all needed materials for programming as needed
- Assist with set up and break down of location and materials
- Camp Support
- Assist with Camp lunch periods, including supervision of campers with another staff member
- Help camp staff facilitate games and activities related to the camp curriculum with campers
- Engage with zoo guests in interpretation techniques, curriculum, and programming
Prerequisite Service: Entry Level (0+ Hours)
Qualifications:
- Must complete general Zoo Crew Orientation Training and Interpretation 101 Training (Basics of Interpretation) before scheduling first shift
- Must meet with Education Programs Manager prior to first shift
- Complete on-the-job training of duties listed
- Must complete 10 School & Camp Programs Support shifts within a year
- Must be comfortable speaking with large groups of children and adults, with or without a microphone
