Alameda County Fair Volunteer Program

This building is set up as an Agricultural Heritage Museum. Displays will feature "scenes" from history of our area's heritage. The volunteers in this area will interact with guests by explaining a simple seek and find game. They will monitor the displays, keep guests from damaging them, answer any questions and help with customer service for the building. 

Help coordinate any activities they have for the youth, you will also walk around the building and visually monitor the exhibits to be sure no guests touch them. Also, you will take note of displays that need repair and report it.

This area offers a 6:30am/7am shift 

You will be assisting in directing people to the amphitheater line. You will be engaging with guests and keeping the line orderly. Be ready to answer questions and encourage the people to properly throw away their trash. You will also be helping with trash pick-up in the line area after the concert starts. 

YOU MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO VOLUNTEER HERE.

Building Monitor:

• This job is focused on customer service
• You can expect to answer questions about the exhibits, help exhibitors find their entries in the displays and promote fair activities.
• Building monitors walk each building and visually monitor the exhibits to be sure fair goers do not touch them. They also note displays that need repair.
• All staff and volunteers help to open or close the buildings depending on their shift and help to keep the buildings clean.

This job is OUTSIDE.

You will be given an extension grabber and bucket and will be asked to patrol areas of the fairgrounds, particularly around any picnic table areas, and pick up any litter that you see. 

This job is well suited for volunteers who are working with young children. It is also a great area for a volunteer who enjoys a little more freedom and engaging with the crowd while volunteering. 

The work in this area is customer service related.

• You can expect to answer questions about the exhibits, help exhibitors find their entries in the displays and promote fair activities.

• All staff and volunteers help open or close the buildings depending on their shift and help to keep the buildings clean
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on concrete floors.
• Must be able to visually monitor the building.

Pre-fair volunteers are essential for getting the exhibits ready!

Volunteers will:

Help hanging the art. Those volunteers need to be able to be on their feet, carry artwork, and potentially operate a drill for hanging

There is some light lifting-- up to 20lbs (just a few) 

This is an outside position. Walking around and checking to see if there is anything wrong with the exhibits, making sure the area is clean, and answering any questions that our visitors would like to know. Also, take note of displays that need repair and report it. This position includes sweeping and greeting our guests and attending the Creativity table.

THIS AREA IS NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG VOLUNTEERS...TEENS through ADULT WORK WELL HERE

You can expect to answer questions about the exhibits, help our visitors on where the exhibits are at, and help coordinate the activities for the people to enjoy. You will also be walking around the building, looking for any display that needs cleaning. Also take note of displays that need repair and report it.

On the weekends you will help with Rock Painting 

Fridays there is also an activity. 

This is an OUTSIDE area.  You will be walking around and checking to see if there is anything wrong with the exhibits, making sure the area is clean, and answering any questions that our visitors would like to know.  Make sure that no one walks on the gardens. Also, take note of displays that need repair and report it. 

The primary job of a volunteer in this department is security to ensure that animals are not stolen or harassed by fair guests. Volunteers may also be asked to keep small areas clean with a broom and to water animals. Be ready to answer any questions about the fair, like, who is performing, where is the Grandstands and the closest restroom.

Concert Usher (INSIDE the amphitheater)

*This area is for volunteers 18+ only*

• You need to be comfortable with being inside the amphitheater during the concert (handle the sound level)
• You will be standing from 6pm on…possibly during the entire show depending on the crowd and seating availability
• Be able to walk up/down stairs
• You will help patrons holding reserved tickets find their seats
• You will guide non-ticketed guest to the general seating area
• You are expected to work the entire concert--There is no standing in the aisles and no videoing allowed
• You must keep your volunteer uniform on at all times. Guest should be able to identify you for questions and or concerns.

I'm AVAILABLE!: 

MUST BE 16 YEARS OLD OR OLDER. 

You will be assigned an area to help in once arriving at the fair. You choose the date/time you're available to come in and we chose the area you work in based on the need for the day. This position is such a great help! This role will be used as a "substitute" for no-shows or cancellations. We have areas that are prioritized and need to be filled.

*I cannot guarantee you can work together. This option does not work well for parent/child.*

Do you love wine? Do you know the difference between the Napa Valley appellation and the Carneros region? Can you open and pour wine? We'd love to have you help pour at our event!

We need 60 pourers. It's a great afternoon! If you would like to work with a friend, please specify their name and make sure they sign up too!

Volunteers signed up for this opportunity will rotate between monitoring the Fountain and working in Collectibles-- Building O. 1/2 outside monitoring the Fountain and 1/2 inside helping with Building O tasks. 

The fountain monitor will help keep our guests safe around the fountain while still allowing them to enjoy the area.

• No one is allowed in the Fountain
• No kids reaching over the edge and putting hands in the fountain--they can easily topple head first 
• No one should throw anything in the Fountain--not even coins. It can damage the system

Building O tasks will be assigned by staff inside the building. 

Parking Attendant-

**Volunteers 16+ for parking** Please check in with a supervisor at Road 12. Volunteers will direct vehicles on where to park. You must be able to stand for long periods of time. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes a hat is also recommended. You should bring water and a snack.
