Help tell the stories of lives changed by war and conflict.
As a Discover volunteer you will be the warm and welcoming face of the museum helping visitors feel special and valued. You will be able to make recommendations based on their personal interests and provide information to make sure that they get the very most out of their visit.
Discover volunteers are confident using their initiative, intuition and are proud of being an IWM ambassador. As well as helping visitors explore our exhibits and activities volunteers also welcome school groups and help to point out key facilities, address access needs and highlight our ‘Hidden Gems’. We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, engaging and passionate about the IWM and its charitable message.
About IWM
Established at the end of the First World War and renowned for its pivotal role in the Battle of Britain, IWM Duxford is one of the world's leading aviation museums. Home to an extraordinary collection of historic aircraft, military vehicles and artefacts, the site encompasses many original wartime buildings that bring history to life.
Visitors can experience Duxford as it was during the Second World War by exploring the reconstructed Watch Office, discovering the stories of those who worked in the historic Operations Block, and immersing themselves in the Historic Duxford exhibition. From 1943, Duxford became a key American fighter base, and today the American Air Museum celebrates that legacy, housing iconic aircraft including the impressive B-52 Stratofortress, along with our newly opened Pilots Briefing Room and Pilots Locker Room. Across the site, tanks, artillery pieces, trucks and other military vehicles tell the story of the evolution of modern warfare.
Today, the rich heritage of Duxford is preserved by IWM (Imperial War Museums), ensuring that future generations can continue to learn from and enjoy this remarkable historic site.
