Sports programs - Gym-based (ie. soccer, basketball, gymnastics, physical literacy, etc)
Our weekly sports and recreation programs provide adapted athletic instruction to children with autism. Our gym-based programs include;
- Active, which teaches our youngest participants fundamental movement skills in a safe and supportive environment. Learning basic skills such as running, jumping, throwing and balancing helps children build the confidence necessary for a lifetime of sport and physical activity.
- Multisport, which provides a fun introduction into the world of sports! Participants will enjoy games and drills that work on a variety of skills used in various sports. This program is designed to provide a fun, safe and supportive environment for all those taking part.
- Fitness, which offers youth and young adults with autism the opportunity to become more comfortable in a gym environment with the support of qualified instructors and alongside peers.
- Gymnastics, which focuses on basic gymnastics skills, as well as general gym safety. Participants will gain exposure to typical gymnastics equipment found in a gymnastics facility, such as floor, beam, bars, rings and trampoline.
And various other programs!
In our sports programs, volunteers assist in a range of tasks including modeling exercises, helping to set up or pack up materials for activities or assisting with visual or other supports.
