1. MEMORY WALK & JOG - Canberra Memory Walk & Jog

The Memory Walk & Jog series is our major fundraising event for the year, and Dementia Australia relies on the support of hundreds of volunteers to help ensure the events run safely and successfully.

You can choose your preferred allocation in Event / Track or Specialised. We will do our best to allocate accordingly – however, we cannot always guarantee first preferences.

Event Space Volunteers – Supporting the Dementia Australia event crew, ensuring the event runs smoothly and safely. Roles include the following

  • Registration Assistants
  • Bib & T-Shirt Stall Assistants
  • Merchandise Stall Assistants
  • Dementia Warriors Stall Assistants
  • Medallion Presenters
  • Parking Attendants

Track Event Volunteers –

They support the Dementia Australia event crew, ensuring that the track, the participants and the general public have a safe and fun experience throughout the morning. Bringing your enthusiasm and cheer, volunteers will encourage and guide participants around the track safely. Some volunteers may require the use of two radios.

  • Way Finders / Track Marshals
  • Start / Finish Line Marshals

Specialised Volunteer Roles

As our Mascot, “Al the Elephant”, your role is to wear a costume with a moulded head, limited vision, and big enclosed feet. You will always be supported by an assistant throughout the day. The mascot and assistant volunteer may share the roles throughout the morning.

Sweep Riders are an integral part of any race. These volunteers lead the pack of participants, ensuring the safety of our participants’ runners, walks and the general public using the public space. Sweep Riders are also the last, following the previous participant playing a part in helping people do something they weren’t sure they could. Volunteers will be required to BYO a Bicycle and Helmet and the ability to ride 10kms safely amongst large groups of people.
