The Manitoba Museum

The Manitoba Museum is the province’s largest, not-for-profit heritage and science centre. We are renowned for our vivid portrayal of Manitoba’s rich and colourful history, Planetarium shows, and Science Gallery exhibits.

MUSEUM GALLERIES

The Museum’s collections reflect the heritage of Manitoba and other regions of the world. Our nine interpretive galleries explore the interrelationship of people and their environment. Travel through millions of years as you journey from north to south across Manitoba’s vast and varied landscape, from the icy arctic coast to the windswept prairies.

The Museum is noted for its three-dimensional walk-through galleries. Highlights include the Nonsuch, a full-size 17th-century sailing vessel, and the Urban Gallery, which takes you back in time to Winnipeg during the 1920s.

PLANETARIUM

The Planetarium features interactive multimedia shows that recreate the current night sky, explore various hot topics in astronomy, and highlight the latest space discoveries. From imaginative children’s shows to more sophisticated fare, the Planetarium shares the wonders of the universe with visitors of all ages.

SCIENCE GALLERY

With more than 100 entertaining hands-on exhibits in the Science Gallery, push the limits of your imagination, put your senses to the test and explore science, technology and the world around you in an exciting, high-energy environment.

People volunteer at the Manitoba Museum for a variety of reasons. Some are students looking for work experience and credit for high school, others have recently immigrated and wish to learning about their new home and practice a new language while others are retired and looking for a stimulating place to stay active, support their community and meet new people. Whatever the reason is for bringing our volunteers to us, we are very thankful to have them!

Volunteers assisted in over 20 different departments at the Museum ranging from teaching visitors through education programs and hands-on interpretation in the Museum and Science galleries, to helping behind the scenes providing crucial support to staff assisting with clerical support, collections database work, and research.
