Parks Steward Volunteer

Position Description: 

Parks Steward Volunteers conduct ecological research to contribute data to an international ornithological resource network and engage with visitors to provide park users with opportunities to learn and develop bird sighting and identification skills. Volunteers work outdoors alone or in pairs on the trail system for three-hour shifts year-round.

Responsibilities include:

  • Record species and number of birds seen and heard 
  • Assist interested visitors in sighting and identifying birds
  • Greet park visitors and provide information about the park’s physical layout, amenities, and etiquette
  • Answer visitor questions and direct visitors to further resources
  • Complete shift reports online
  • Submit observations in Ebird at the end of each shift day
  • Schedule and report volunteer hours using the Better Impact volunteer database
