Volunteer Opportunities in Cut Knife, Hafford, Leoville, Macklin, Spiritwood, Wilkie, and Unity

NW5 - Multi-site - Immunization Ambassador

The volunteers will assist Community Health in directing clients that arrive, letting them know who is next in line for their appointment, where to sit post appointment. Most appointments will be drop in, they will also be wiping down chair after clients leave.


Location will be at the various health facility's in the communities of Wilkie, Unity, Macklin and Cut Knife as well as if they have to attend clinics in the schools.

 

Parking will be the facilities main parking lots and they will have a greeting tables and signs set up when clients arrive at the entrances helping to direct traffic 

 

Shifts are varied :  Sunday - Saturday  morning, afternoons or evenings  



Cut Knife - Entertainment Provider

Provider volunteers provide mental, social, emotional, and physical stimulation to residents
Group choirs, bands, individual piano players, piano/guitar recitals, performances, dance groups, school entertainment, old time dancing groups, hymn sing, story tellers.
 
Shifts are once per week or once per month on a rotation 
Time available :   Sunday to Saturday morning, afternoon and evening  
 
 

Cut Knife - Youth Ambassador

The Youth Ambassador  assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities. 

Youth Ambassadors are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

Activities include, but are not limited to:  1:1 visits, cards, sharing any special talents, reading to residents and games, crafts, getting involved in special interests and events. 

Shifts are ongoing  Sporadic/ casual dependent upon programs:  Monday - Friday  mornings afternoons and evenings. 

Cut Knife - Recreation Associate

The Recreation Associate assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities. 

Recreation Associate are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

Activities include, but are not limited to:  Reading groups, puzzles, games, bingo, nail painting, going for walks, group painting, crafts, exercise programs, and special events like Christmas parties and teas. Birthday parties, volunteer group outings.

Shifts Vary based on calendar events.  

Sunday to Saturday - mornings, afternoons and evenings. 

Hafford - Entertainment Provider

Provider volunteers provide mental, social, emotional, and physical stimulation to residents
Group choirs, bands, individual piano players, piano/guitar recitals, performances, dance groups, school entertainment, old time dancing groups, hymn sing, story tellers.
 
Two groups perform once per month on a rotation. 
 
Shifts vary dependent upon group availability:   
Monday -  Sunday - Afternoons 

Hafford - Horticulture Ambassador

Volunteer will assist residents with caring for watering outdoor plants and maintain yard with weeding outdoor area. Transplanting green house plants to pots in outdoor space.

This is a seasonal program for spring, summer, fall.   Monday to Friday mornings. 

 

Hafford - Recreation Associate

The Recreation Associate assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities. 

Recreation Associate are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

Activities include, but are not limited to:  Reading groups, puzzles, games, bingo, nail painting, going for walks, group painting, crafts, exercise programs, and special events like Christmas parties and teas. Birthday parties, volunteer group outings.

Various shifts available : Monday to Friday mornings and afternoons.   

Hafford - Youth-in-Action Ambassador

Youth in Action-Hafford Special Care Home

The Youth in Action Ambassador  assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities. 

They are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

The youth volunteer would have conversation with the resident, paint finger nails, help with the iPad, play a card game, read a story, assist with coffee, making puzzles and art projects. The volunteer would assist with pushing a wheelchair and taking a resident for a walk down the hallways or outside.

The program runs from November - May 

Shifts are available Tues , Wed & Thurs  3;45 pm - 4:45 pm 

Leoville - Entertainment Provider

Group choirs, bands, individual piano players, piano/guitar recitals, performances, dance groups, school entertainment, old time dancing groups, hymn sing, story tellers.
 
Shifts vary dependent upon group availability:  

Leoville - Recreation Associate

Benefits to SHA Clients:
Volunteers share their time & efforts to support staff with their daily and monthly activity programs. The volunteer supplies that extra pair of “helping hands” that add to the trained services of the long-term care facility staff working together to enhance the lives of residents.
 
Benefits to Volunteer:
Volunteers will have a sense of fulfillment and purpose by providing support for a variety of programs that stimulate the mental, social, emotional, and physical well-being of residents.

Macklin - Entertainment Provider

Provider volunteers provide mental, social, emotional, and physical stimulation to residents
Group choirs, bands, individual piano players, piano/guitar recitals, performances, dance groups, school entertainment, old time dancing groups, hymn sing, story tellers.
 
Casual position. Shifts vary but may be morning, afternoon or evening Monday - Sunday.
 
Ages 10+
 
Must be trained in their profession of entertainment (ie. musical performers - must possess good musical ability).

Macklin - Recreation Associate

Available :  Monday - Friday   mornings and afternoons.  

Macklin - Meals on Wheels Associate

VARIOUS SHIFTS AVAILABLE IN:  MACKLIN

Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to clients assessed as needing support with nutrition. 

Benefits to the volunteer include a sense of personal accomplishment, develop and enhance communication skills, learn new job skills, obtain a work routine, be involved and give back to community.

 

Volunteer picks up meals at given time from the outlet and delivers to client in their home. 

 

Shifts vary, delivery over lunch time hours. 

 

Macklin - Youth Ambassador

Youth Ambassadors  are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

Shifts are ongoing sporadic/ casual available :  Monday to Friday  mornings and afternoons.  

Spiritwood - Auxiliary Ambassador

Idylwild Lodge Ladies Auxiliary-fundraising Entity but also help recreation staff with tea's, family Christmas dinners, Horticulture and other social events. 

 

Meets on the first Wednesday of every month. Times to be determined

Spiritwood - Horticulture Ambassador

The Horticulture Associate will be able to bring joy to residents. They will share talents in garden, visit with elders of the community and improve the resident's outdoor experience

They assist residents in caring for the outdoor space we have during our Spring/summer/ fall season.

Duties may include:  Watering, feed, transplant plants, weed plant beds, trim/prune plants as required, maintain tidiness in garden area.

 

 

Spiritwood - Pet Visitation Associate

Animals have been found to benefit people socially, psychologically, and physiologically.  The goals of pet visitation programs are to provide opportunities for patients to reach and maintain their optimal level of physical and mental functioning; to maintain or re-establish interests, social contacts and dignity, to alleviate anxiety and redirect attention from their own condition and try to provide an outlet for emotion; and to provide structured, meaningful daily activity.

 All dogs are to be certified and temperament tested by a Certified Pet Dog Trainer or by St. John’s Ambulance. They will be placed in areas according to their certification level.  

 Vaccinations are to be up to date prior to first animal visit o Handlers must complete all required SaskHA Registered Volunteer processes


The physical and mental ability to do the work assigned

 Volunteers are to provide pet visitation only and not utilize therapy dogs as “tools” for therapy.

 

 Volunteers must follow SaskHA hand hygiene protocols and infection control procedures

 Volunteers must maintain patient privacy and confidentiality

 Volunteers must follow SaskHA policies and procedures  

Shifts times are negotiable. 

 

Spiritwood - Recreation Associate

Spiritwood - Spiritual Care Support Associate

The Recreation Associate assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities. 

Recreation Associate are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents

Spiritual Care Support Group: 
Providing spiritual services to groups of residents. Number of services will be agreed upon by Rec staff and Spiritual Care Provider. Bible Studies, assisting with church services. Spiritual Care Support

Shifts available Sunday - Saturday mornings and afternoons. 

Spiritwood - Youth Ambassador

The residents enjoy many benefits of the daily activities provided by the staff and with the assistance of volunteers. The volunteer supplies that extra pair of “helping hands” that add to the trained services of the long-term care facility staff.

Student Volunteer-Supervised 1:1 visiting with residents will include: playing board games, playing card games, looking at pictures with residents, painting nails, doing art with residents, reading stories to residents

 

Shifts occur Wednesday afternoon 2:30 - 3:30   

 

 

Spiritwood - Youth-in-Action Ambassador

Days/Times: Monday through Friday afternoons. 2:30 - 3:30pm.

Unity - Horticulture Ambassador

The Horticulture Associate will be able to bring joy to residents. They will share talents in garden, visit with elders of the community and improve the resident's outdoor experience

- Water outdoor annual flowers & plants located in flower pots and raised garden beds.
- Weed outdoor annual flowers & plants located in flower pots and raised garden beds.
- Fertilize and prune annual flowers & plants located in flower pots and raised garden beds.
- Possibility of transplanting of greenhouse plants and flowers into outdoor pots, etc. 
- Fill bird feeders with bird seed provided by the recreation dept.

Shifts available Monday - Friday mornings and afternoons 

This is and ongoing/casual, weekly /monthly depending on need. 

 

Unity - Meals on Wheels Associate

VARIOUS SHIFTS AVAILABLE IN:  UNITY

Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to clients assessed as needing support with nutrition.

Unity - Moms and Tots Group

Moms will bring children in for visits. The residents will enjoy spending time with the children. This is a great opportunity to meet other mom and tots in the area. This group also meets on other days during the week in various locations. 

Groups will meet casually one afternoon per month or more.
