Dog Care
Description: Responsible for the daily care of our dogs located at the shelter. This may include feeding, cleaning, socializing, bathing, training, and medicating. Volunteer will be working with dogs of various sizes and ages. Other duties include laundry. Will be exposed to a variety of cleaning chemicals and may need to work in inclement weather or around fearful animals.
- Hour requirement: One shift per month. The shift may vary in length from 2-4 hours depending on the number of animals at shelter and tasks to be completed.
- Skills needed: Willingness to learn new tasks, attention to detail and flexibility needed. Must have the ability to work within a fast-paced environment, multi-task, work well in both a team environment and independently, prioritize responsibilities, and take initiative to complete tasks. Must be detailed oriented, dependable, and have good communication skills. Availability to work some weekends and holidays preferred. Ability to read animal behavior or previous animal care experience a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to bend and squat in order to clean, scoop poop, and pick up toys and other items. Able to lift dog food bags and trash (10 to 40 pounds). Ability to control a medium to large dog on leash. Volunteer will be on their feet, moving about for 2 to 3 hours.
