Dog Walking
Dog Walking goal is to provide:
- Exercise
- Comfort and companionship
- Socialization and enrichment
Walking shelter dogs helps relieve kennel stress, improves health, and teaches manners—plus it gives each dog valuable one-on-one time.
Volunteer Requirements
- Must be 18 or older to walk dogs alone.
- Teens (14–17) may participate with a parent/guardian. A minor waiver is required.
- Adults must leash/harness the dog; no more than two teens per adult.
- Complete orientation & paperwork before handling dogs.
- If you are bringing a spouse/family member, they also need a signed waiver on file.
- Complete all required online training.
- Complete at least one in person Dog Walking orientation.
- Commit to at least 3 walking shifts per month (1 hour each shift)
- Commit to at least 3 months of walking shifts.
Dress Code: Closed-toe, rubber-soled shoes; long pants recommended. No crop tops or very short shorts. Bring weather-appropriate gear. Expect mud, fur, and paw prints!
Physical Requirements: Ability to bend and squat in order to clean, scoop poop, and pick up toys and other items. Able to lift trash (10 to 40 pounds). Ability to control a medium to large dog on leash. Ability to be on your feet from 1 to 2 hours.
