Saskatoon City Hospital - GEM (Geriatric Evaluation and Management) Program Volunteer
Who Can Volunteer:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
About the Role:
Do you enjoy welcoming others with a smile and spending time visiting with people? GEM Program volunteers help patients feel welcome and reduce any apprehension they may have upon arriving at the hospital. Volunteers provide socialization and non-medical support, assisting patients as they arrive and guiding them from the front door to the GEM dining room.
- Engage in conversation with individual patients or groups during coffee time
- Assist with the walking group, socializing and making conversation with patients
- Support recreation staff with creative activities, engaging patients in fun and meaningful programs
- Gain experience working as part of an interprofessional team and with older adults
Shifts Available:
Wednesday: 8:15 AM – 10:30 AM
Skills & Qualities Needed:
- Friendly, approachable, and patient manner
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to interact with older adults and participate in activities
- Ability to work as part of a team

This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity, ideal for anyone interested in gaining experience in a healthcare and interprofessional team environment
