Volunteer Opportunities

Events Support - Front of House

Do you enjoy making sure things run smoothly and like taking ownership of tasks? We are looking for individuals who like getting stuck in with making sure events are successful. This will include helping with way-finding, giving out information and visitor support. As front of house you will be presenting a professional and friendly image at all times whilst being creative to problem solve.

Events Support - Backstage

Are you a grafter that takes pride in organising events behind the scenes? If the answer is yes, we would love to hear from you. Backstage work is an essential part of any great event and the events support crew makes it all look easy! Whether you are a designer at heart, happy to shift things from place to place, methodical in your approach or just prefer not being in the limelight, this could be the place for you to make a real difference and add your mark to the success of our 2020 events.

Interviewing and Journalism

We are looking for volunteers who will be trained in interviewing members of the public about their life stories in music, which will then be documented in an online digital archive. For all those who love reggae music or if you are just curious about uncovering unheard stories, we'd love you to get involved. This role is best suited for people who are naturally welcoming, can make people feel at ease and are active listeners. Does this sound like you? If so please sign up!

Social Media and Marketing

Are tweeting, posting and blogging all familiar terms to you? We need your help to collect content for social media and marketing so that everyone can track what is happening throughout the Brent 2020 programme. Come along to events, share stories, take vox pops and get snapping to celebrate the amazing experiences of 2020.

We hope the word ‘administration’ will give you a sense of pride, knowing that your skills and knowledge can be instrumental in the processing and organisation of Brent 2020. If you agree, you could be directly working with and supporting the Brent 2020 team including the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Community Engagement Manager and the Volunteer Coordinator in desk and computer based activities. Tasks could include but are not limited to; corresponding with members of the public and potential volunteers, inputting data and helping volunteers with e-learning and other IT queries.

Creative Workshops

Community based creative workshops are an inspirational way to draw people together to learn new skills and take part in hobbies and interests. In Brent, we have a host of artists and facilitators who will need your support to carry out creative workshops. Does working with others and helping them to fulfil their potential sound like something you would be great at? If so we would love to hear from you.

Working with community groups

For Brent 2020 we're putting culture and communities at the heart of everything we represent. This means being able to learn from, listen to and value community groups is part of our heartbeat. We are looking for those of you who share these values and wish to support at events and activities that are based in the community working with a variety of people. Does this sound like something you would be great at? If so, please sign-up.

Welcoming/Meeting and Greeting

Do you have a flair for making people feel welcome and at ease? We are looking for people who like people. If you have a natural open manner about you that can create a welcoming atmosphere we would love to hear from you. This may suit you if you have a background in customer service, retail or are just friendly and want to meet and greet others, please get in touch with us. You will be one of the first points of contacts for visitors at events and so a positive attitude is essential.

Research and archiving

Do you like investigating and digging out new and interesting things? Or maybe you have an interest in people’s stories and uncovering what would otherwise be forgotten or unheard? We need volunteers to help uncover stories and carry out research tasks in the Brent Archives, to help inform and inspire the Brent 2020 year as we celebrate the borough past and present.

Supporting a team

We are looking for natural leaders who are not afraid of taking responsibility at large scale events for a small team of volunteers. This could be an area of your expertise that will make it easier for you not to panic if there are challenges, however this could also be in a new subject area you have been trained in but you have the confidence to manage yourself and others knowing that you represent Brent 2020 and will be in the public eye. If this sounds like your comfort zone, your characteristics will include the fact that you are accountable, approachable, punctual and a likeable people person. Still interested? Then please apply.

Do you enjoy bringing out the best in people? Can you spot potential in a variety of people, seeing difference and individualism as positive features? If so, come and support us select people who can represent Brent 2020. We need help to get people involved in this once in a life time opportunity so that cultures are represented and skills are shared and enhanced throughout the Borough of Brent. You will be part of organising and attending selection days as well as be involved in the interview process of candidates. A friendly but professional manner is essential; and training is provided.

Delivering training

Interested in being trained up to deliver training to new volunteers? Don't worry if you haven't done this before as training will be provided and there is an option to buddy up with a more experienced trainer or volunteer. If you already have previous experience in helping with the induction and training of others, then please also apply so that your skills can be maximised and built upon. We want our Brent 2020 volunteers to be inducted and trained up so they are confident and ready to go.

Resources creation

We wish to provide learning resources for Volunteers about Brent so we are looking for creative people who can be active in sourcing and producing learning materials and downloadable factsheets of places of interest in Brent. Maybe you are a natural sponge who loves to soak up knowledge? If this is you, would you be willing to share your knowledge with others in an accessible and fun way? We are the LBOC 2020 and we want people to know why. Through your creation of resources, you can help to put Brent it its rightful place on the world stage.

We are mixing, melding, sharing, cooking,
