Volunteering - Specialized Species Assistant: Rabbits

Duties

The role of the Specialized Species Assistant - Rabbits volunteer is to maintain a healthy and happy environment for the rabbits in our care by providing food, water, and clean housing.

General Responsibilities

  • Clean cages.
  • Sweep and mop small animal room.
  • Wash and change out litter pans, water bowls, food bowls, and toys.
  • Provide fresh water, food, and hay.

Shift Times

9 a.m. - 11 a.m. -- 7 days a week

Qualifications

Greenhill Humane Society has the following requirements for participation in this position.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand, walk, and maneuver well in tight spaces for significant periods of time while working in the small animal room, cleaning room and in outside exercise pens.
  • Ability to work around strong odors and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach and lift in order access and put away supplies, sweep and mop, and replace bedding, toys, litter pans, and food/water dishes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally with small animal and front office staff, customers and other volunteers.

Cognitive Capabilities

  • Experience with small animals is helpful but we will train.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and follow instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, or in a parent/youth or support team, while knowing when to ask for help if needed.
  • Basic understanding of small animals, their body language and behavior.
  • Must adhere to safety standards by wearing protective equipment.
