Volunteering - Cattery Tech Assistant
Duties
The role of the Cattery Tech Assistant volunteer is to assist cattery staff with daily duties of maintaining a healthy and happy environment by providing food and clean housing to cats and kittens who are not yet able to be placed in the main floor area, and to assist cattery staff in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
General Responsibilities
Work in conjunction with cattery staff to:
- Sweep and mop isolation rooms, temporary holding areas, etc.
- Clean bank cages.
- Remove and replace dirty bedding, blankets, and toys as needed.
- Change out litter pans, water bowls, and food bowls.
Shift Times
8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. 7 days a week
Qualifications
Greenhill Humane Society has the following requirements for participation in this position.
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to stand, walk, and maneuver well in tight spaces for significant periods of time while working on the cattery main floor and in side rooms.
- Ability to work around strong odors and cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to bend, squat, reach and lift in order access and put away supplies, sweep and mop, and replace bedding, toys, litter pans, and food/water dishes.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally with cattery staff and other volunteers.
Cognitive Capabilities
- Ability to understand, remember, and following instructions and procedures.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, while knowing when to ask for help if needed.
- Basic understanding of cats, their body language and behavior.
Training Requirements
- At least 6 shifts or 12 hours of Cattery Adoption Floor Cleaning
- Cattery Tech Assistant Training
