Habitat Restoration

Habitat restoration is one of the most important things that we do! Once we have protected a property, either by owning it or through a conservation easement, our goal for the property is to keep it or restore it to a natural state, allowing native plants and animals to flourish.

Habitat restoration typically involves the removal of invasive species of plants. Once invasive plants are removed, native plants will often return on their own, although sometimes we will give nature a helping hand, for example by reseeding.

A typical habitat restoration project involves us meeting at one of the preserves for a couple of hours (you will be told ahead of time), hiking trails and looking for invasive species to spray or remove. Expect to get dirty, sweaty, immerse yourself in nature, and meet the other volunteers attending.

Locations often very so keep a lookout for different addresses!

What to wear? We recommend wearing long-sleeve shirts, pants, hard-toed shoes, a hat, and bug spray.

What to bring? Gardening gloves, water, and a saw or loppers if you have them.
