Current Volunteer Opportunities

Community Delivery - Volunteer Driver

Use your vehicle to deliver food parcels to local clients who are unable to come to Kerr Street Mission in person due to health, mobility or other reasons.  Suitable for volunteers aged 18+ who can lift and carry up to 30lbs.
 

Shifts:

  • Weekly on Wednesdays. Shift times are 1 hour between 12pm and 2:30pm OR
  • Help us out occasionally on Wednesdays as a backup driver

Responsibilities:  

  • Once a week, deliver food parcels according to a prescribed route within the Oakville area (approximately 5-8 drop offs per shift) 
  • Arrive at KSM at the scheduled time to pick up food parcels and load car 
  • Follow route to clients addresses, following the drop off instructions on the list provided 
  • If contact cannot be made, return the food parcels to KSM 
  • Contact the Community Delivery Coordinator if any issues arise along the route and also to confirm deliveries have been made 
  • Shred documents containing client information once deliveries are complete 
  • Represent KSM in a positive and caring way with our clients and in the community 
Requirements:  
  • Must be 18 
  • Must be reliable and punctual 
  • Good driver with valid drivers license and current auto insurance 
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs with no issue 
  • Possess a mobile phone with text capability  
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Possess compassion and patience, and respect for client confidentiality 
  • Ability to cover cost of gas/mileage for weekly trips 
  • A Vulnerable Sector Check (police check) is required

Emerge - Youth Group Leader

We are seeking passionate, reliable, and engaging male Youth Group Leaders to join our team and work with high school-aged youth on Friday evenings.  
 
Shifts are:    Fridays, 6:45 PM - 8:30 PM
 
The Youth Group Leader will facilitate a safe, positive, and supportive environment for students to connect, learn, and grow in their faith, social skills, and personal development. This role requires building relationships with youth, engaging in conversations around God, faith, and the Bible, and helping create an atmosphere where everyone feels valued.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and facilitate weekly youth group meetings, providing an engaging program that includes discussions, activities, and games that promote personal and spiritual growth.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
  • Build meaningful relationships with high school students and encourage open communication and trust.
  • Encourage youth to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and responsibility within the group.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all youth participants during meetings and activities.
  • Provide support and mentorship to students as needed, helping to guide them through personal or spiritual challenges.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and act as a role model for the students.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for working with high school youth and making a positive impact on their lives.
  • Strong faith background
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with a diverse group of young people.
  • Previous experience working with youth (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to create a fun, engaging, and respectful atmosphere.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • A team player who is willing to collaborate with other volunteers and staff
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and providing a safe space for students.
  • Clear and current Vulnerable Sector Check

Committment:  One shift per week for a 6 month period

 

 

Van Cleaner

KSM Van Cleaner 

Support our staff by keeping our  KSM vehicles clean and tidy between the months of March and October. 

 

Time commitment:  1-2 hours twice per month. 

 

Shift times:  Flexible during KSM hours when the vans are not being used.             

 

Responsibilities:       

  • Working individually or as a team of two:
  • Use cleaning supplies provided, clean the interior of the van including seats , dashboard and mats
  • Using Power washer , hose and cleaner, wash the outside of the van
  • Dispose of any garbage in the appropriate receptacles
  • Store cleaning supplies and equipment at the end of the shift
  • Identify issues/improvements/potential repairs and advise the Director of Operations

Requirements:                           

  • Must be 16+  
  • Experience using a powerwasher
  • Diligence and attention to detail 
  • Excellent problem solving ability 
  • Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check if 18+
  • Reliability

 

Commitment: Minimum 6 month commitment 

Warehouse Volunteer

Help our Food Services Team receive deliveries, stock our food market and manage our food inventory, leading to a positive shopping experience for the patrons of our food bank.

Suitable for volunteers 18+ who can lift up to 50lbs.

Available Shifts

  • Floater Volunteer role - helping out on an as needed basis

Responsibilities:

  • Help Stock the KSM Food Market by loading in fresh food products, bringing additional inventory from food storage locations
  • Help load and unload deliveries, putting items away in designated locations
  • Engage with food donors, greeting them warmly and thanking them on behalf of KSM.  
  • Follow processes to ensure donations are appropriately weighed and logged in our tracking system
  • Shuffle inventory in storage locations as needed to maintain a steady flow of produce following a first in, first out process.
  • Organize food in refrigeration units and ensure that the unit temperatures are maintained
  • Keep the KSM warehouse and work areas clean and organized according to warehouse processes and standards.
  • Dispose of recycling and clutter as needed. 
  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner with staff and other volunteers.
  • Occasionally accompany KSM staff to go offsite and help with pickups/loading/receiving. 

Requirements:

  • Must be 18+.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Good problem-solving ability.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Organized and communicative.

Commitment: One shift per week for a minimum of 6 months.
