Income Tax Greeter

Income Tax Greeter

Support the income tax clinics for Kerr Street Mission clients and local residents by greeting people who come for income tax completion and ensuring they have the necessary documentation.

 

Shift times are:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30pm-8:00pm and Saturdays 8:30am-12pm in March and April.
  • Volunteers are asked to commit to one or more weekly shifts during this timeframe.  

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the Family Services Manager, the Income Tax Greeter will greet people who would like to have their income tax completed at Kerr Street Mission to confirm their eligibility for the program and to confirm that they have provided all of the required documents for the income tax to be prepared.    

Key Responsibilities:

  • Warmly greet the participants of the income tax clinic 
  • Confirm participants eligibility for the CVITP (Community Volunteer Income Tax Program) 
  • Confirm that the client has the required documents for their income tax completion  
  • Answer general questions about Kerr St Mission and the CVITP 
  • Maintain confidentiality

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Registration with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a Volunteer Tax Preparer:  Register to volunteer - Canada.ca 
  • Attend the training offered through the CRA 
  • Be compliant with CVITP policies 
  • Kind and patient demeanour 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to relay information in a simple manner 
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team  
  • Adult volunteers 18+ 
  • Current and clear Vulnerable Sector Check
 
 

Income Tax Preparer

Income Tax Preparer

Complete income tax returns for Kerr Street Mission clients and local residents for the current  tax year The majority of the income tax returns will be prepared in March and April.   

 

Shift times are:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30pm-8:00pm and Saturdays 8:30am-12pm in March and April.
  • Volunteers are asked to commit to one or more weekly shifts during this timeframe.  
Position Overview:

The Income Tax preparer will complete taxes for people with a modest income and a simple tax situationKerr Street Mission will offer in-person and virtual/drop-off tax clinics so you may have the opportunity to volunteer at either In-person tax clinics will involve meeting directly with the client to prepare the respective income tax returns in real time.   

Key Responsibilities:. 

  • Prepare and file tax returns using EFILE and CVITP (Community Volunteer Income Tax Program) tax preparation software or on paper.  
  • If you file electronically, you can also choose to use the CRA’s (Canada Revenue Agency) Auto-fill my return service.   
  • Maintain confidentiality  

Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • Registration with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a Volunteer Tax Preparer:  Register to volunteer - Canada.ca 
  • Complete the training and access the support offered through the CRA
  • Be compliant with CVITP policies 
  • Previous experience completing income tax returns is considered an asset  
  • Be comfortable using a computer 
  • Have a basic understanding of how to do taxes 
  • Keep statistical data on the number of returns prepared 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to relay information in a simple manner 
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team  
  • Adult 18+ 
  • Current and clear Vulnerable Sector Check

 

 
 

Market Express - Packing Volunteer

The Kerr Street Market is launching our online pick-up program called Market Express! This service allows clients to create a customized food order and book a time for pick up.

The packing volunteers will refer to the client order forms and pack and label orders for the clients to pick up so they can skip the line at the market.   

Suitable for volunteers 18+ who can lift up to 50lbs. 

Available Shifts:  Tuesdays, Thursdays from 1pm-3pm

Responsibilities: 

  • Carefully pack bags for our clients by referring to the order sheets, family size allotments and client preferences.
  • Pack Choose Fresh packages according to client registrations.
  • Help label and sort packages in fridges for easy pick up. 
  • Shuffle inventory in storage locations as needed to maintain a steady flow of produce following a first in, first out process.
  • Organize food in refrigeration units and ensure that the unit temperatures are maintained
  • Keep the KSM warehouse and work areas clean and organized according to warehouse processes and standards. 
  • Dispose of recycling and clutter as needed.  
  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner with staff and other volunteers. 
Requirements: 
  • Must be 18+
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Good multi-tasking skills. 
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks efficiently. 
  • Good problem-solving ability. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Organized and communicative. 
Commitment: One shift per week for a minimum of 6 months.

 

Market Express - Distribution Volunteer

The Kerr Street Market is launching our online pick-up program called Market Express! Clients can create a customized order and book a time for pick up. The Market Express Distribution volunteers will greet clients on their arrival, log their visit and ensure that they receive the correct packed package.  

Suitable for volunteers 18+ who can lift up to 50lbs. 

Available Shifts:  Tuesdays and Thursdays (3-6 pm) 

Responsibilities: 

  • Warmly welcome clients who come to pick up their order.
  • Check client cards and log visits in our Link2Feed and Choose Fresh systems. 
  • Ensure clients receive the correct packages for pick up.  
  • Trouble shoot with the Food Services team staff any problems that arise. 
  • Keep the KSM warehouse and work areas clean and organized according to warehouse processes and standards. 
  • Communicate the policies and procedures of the pickup program to clients and answer any questions.  
  • Dispose of recycling and clutter as needed.  
  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner with staff and other volunteers. 
Requirements: 
  • Must be 18+. 
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Good multi-tasking skills. 
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks efficiently. 
  • Good problem-solving ability. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Organized and communicative. 
Commitment: One shift per week for a minimum of 6 months.
