Lloydminster - Lloydminster Hospital - Palliative Care Volunteer
- Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with visitors and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines as well as hospital and department policies.
Individual must be 18 years of age to apply. Palliative Care Volunteers will sit with the patient. The Volunteer will stay with the palliative patient to give the family members or caregiver a break. They will seek resources as requested by the family or patient. The volunteer will communicate and collaborate needs to the nursing staff. The volunteer will accept direction and feedback from the staff liaison and volunteer services coordinator.
Volunteers will receive Wheelchair and Broda Chair orientation.
Volunteers must complete Online or in-person Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Volunteer Training Modules 1-9. Session with Palliative Care Coordinator to train on palliative care approach, role of volunteer, boundaries, communication skills, understanding the dying process and cultural and spiritual considerations. (7-8 hour training session)
