This is why we are dedicated to providing resources and support to our clients. Below you will find a description of each of the services that we provide and get a better understanding of what volunteering with us will look like.

Volunteer Opportunities

Homemaker

Importance:

For seniors who only need a small amount of care or need a bit more help adjusting to new independence after the loss of a partner, or recuperating from illness or surgery, there are endless benefits of homemaker services. Homemaker services help lighten the burden of loneliness for some seniors and promotes health and well-being by helping create a clean and cheery environment.

Commitment:

  • 2 hours of service minimum once weekly or bi-monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Light housekeeping (such as washing dishes, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, etc.)
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Laundry
  • Changing bed linens
  • Cleaning kitchen and bathroom
  • Shopping for groceries and cleaning supplies 
  • Gathering trash from inside the home and putting it out for a pick up
  • Running errands
  • Other needs as identified

Companionship

Senior Companion|Respite Care| Age in Place| Wichita| Newton

Importance:

Companionship for seniors is incredibly important because it promotes better mental health, better physical health, creates new routines and makes life better for them and their caregivers. If you are looking to make a new life long friend, companionship is the perfect opportunity for that. 

Commitment:

  • 2 hours of service minimum once weekly or bi-monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Providing companionship, friendship and emotional support
  • Talking, listening and sharing experiences
  • Playing games/cards and reading
  • Helping keep clients in contact with family, friends and the outside world
  • Providing transportation to medical appointments, grocery store and errands
  • Accompanying clients to recreational and/or social events
  • Writing or typing letters/correspondence
  • Organizing and reading mail
  • Teaching/performing meal planning and preparation
  • Performing light housekeeping
  • Accompanying client on walks
  • Reminding client to take medication
  • Reminding client to start or finish their meals

Transportation

Transportation - Dependable Home Care, Senior Care, Elder Care, Assisted  Living, Rochester, Mankato, MN

Importance:

Transportation services provide regular and reliable access to important medical appointments, trips to the pharmacy, rides to favorite events, and social outings. Our transportation services are more than just a ride. Our drivers become trusted friends that provide life saving trips to therapies and treatments essential to health or a simple leisurely drive in the country essential to well-being.

Commitment/Requirement:

  • Provide one ride a week minimum 
  • Access to a safe, reliable vehicle
  • Clean driving record
  • Current drivers license
  • Auto insurance
  • Document ride completion and mileage in Ride Scheduler

Responsibilities:

  • Pick up client at their home
  • Transport to medical and nonmedical appointments/social events
  • Wait for client when requested
  • Provide assistance or personal escort to appointments as needed
  • Return client to their home

Grocery Shopping

FMI: US grocery shoppers frequent more stores per month

Importance:

Access to regular healthy food prevents senior malnutrition and increases health and well-being. If you enjoy grocery shopping, this opportunity allows you to support homebound seniors by providing regular access to healthy food while doing something you love. Clients are shopped out of multiple Super One locations in Duluth, Hermantown, and Superior.  

Commitment:

  • 2 hours of service minimum once weekly or bi-monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Shop at designated time and location for client
  • Deliver groceries to clients residence
  • Put groceries away if requested

Order Taker

Importance:

Grocery order takers serve an essential role in not only taking accurate grocery requests from clients but also being a lifeline for isolated homebound seniors. Your weekly calls are welcomed and important to our clients. This remote opportunity includes taking grocery orders over the telephone using an online web based ordering platform producing orders for shoppers at multiple locations. This web based system provides volunteer opportunities for anyone with a computer and internet access in any location. 

Commitment:

  • 2 hours of service minimum once weekly or bi-monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Call homebound seniors at scheduled times to take grocery order over the telephone
  • Review and read back order to clients to ensure accuracy
  • Provide an update to Volunteer Coordinator

Chore Services

Snow Shoveling Safety | Franciscan Health

Importance:

Chore services provide the support seniors need to remain at home while promoting health and independence. Managing lawn care and snow removal is challenging at any age but especially difficult for seniors. Providing chore services brings instant gratification for the volunteer and a sense of safety and security for our clients.

Commitment:

  • 2 hours of service minimum once weekly or bi-monthly

Responsibilities: 

  • Window washing
  • Lawn mowing
  • Leaf raking and other yard chores
  • Gardening
  • Shoveling

Fundraising

Identifying and executing successful fundraising activities and creating new partnerships, sustains operations, creates new programs, and supports organizational growth and expansion. 

Commitment:

  • 4-5 hours/month

Responsibilities

  • Identify fundraising opportunities
  • Conduct fundraising activities 
  • Identify donors and partners
  • Manage and support donor relations
  • Solicit prizes and sponsors for fundraising events
  • Identify and develop new partnerships to support growth and expansion

 

Board Member

Importance: 

Board members are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure Age Well Arrowhead has adequate resources to advance its mission.

Commitment:

  • 3-5 hours/month to attend regular meetings and committee meetings

Responsibilities:

  • Take care of the nonprofit by ensuring prudent use of all assets, including facility, people, and good will.
  • Ensure that the nonprofit's activities and transactions are, first and foremost, advancing its mission. 
  • Ensure that Age Well Arrowhead obeys applicable laws and regulations; follows its own bylaws; and that it adheres to its stated corporate purposes/mission.

  • Work with the Executive Director to coordinate timelines 
  • Meet deadlines for grant submission
