Play Area Volunteer

Play Area volunteers take an interest in a particular play area, generally one close to their homes. They carry out brief inspections to make sure our play areas are safe for children and young people.

What’s involved?

As an Urban Green Play Area Volunteer you could:

Undertake visual observations and general maintenance tasks

UGN Play Area Volunteers carry out regular inspections of our Play Areas and report back on any problems that might be observed. They also carry out minor maintenance tasks, such as painting and replacing play bark, under the guidance of our Play Area Ranger.

Help to ensure the UGN Park Play Areas are safe and litter free

We want our Park Play Areas to be safe and accessible. This means that litter picking and removing other things that are harmful, like broken glass, is a regular part of the work of an UGN Play Area Volunteer.

Help others to enjoy the UGN Play Areas

We want everyone to enjoy our Play Areas, and part of this role is to be a friendly face for the general public, answering questions that they might have and reporting issues back to UGN.

Act as the eyes and ears within the UGN Play Areas

We rely on our volunteers and community partners to help us keep on top of any issues within the Play Areas.

Who would this role suit?

We are looking for people who are:

Able to work independently in the park Play Areas.

Enthusiastic about working outdoors across the seasons.

Happy to be part of a team and learn new skills.

Interested in play areas, horticulture and the natural world.
