Charlie's Food Bank - On-Site Volunteer

 

Join our team of like-minded individuals as an On-Site Volunteer with Charlie’s Food Bank and the BC SPCA!  Work in partnership with staff and volunteers to load, unload, set up, and distribute food and other donations to members of the public as well as provide support through referral to staff. Your assistance will ensure Charlie’s Food Bank operates efficiently and provides to community pet owners in need of assistance in caring for their pets.

Vancouver BC. We are seeking a few volunteers who can provide support during the shifts listed below and in the role description.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Farm Animal Welfare Policy Researcher Assist the Science and Standards team with researching, analyzing, and comparing policies that impact farmed, wild, and companion animals in British Columbia and Canada (including municipal, provincial, or federal policies). Responsibilities Review the project brief and ask questions as needed Read and understand background information and research Research and synthesize policies from various jurisdictions Evaluate the impact of given policies on animal welfare Organize findings in a succinct manner that allows for meaningful comparisons Suggest initial conclusions from the analysis Communicate regularly with the team Requirements & Training • Must be 19+ years of age • Comfortable using computers and Microsoft Office suite, ability to conduct research online • Strong writing skills and experience with technical communications • Ability to read and understand laws, regulations, and policies • Excellent attention to detail • Education and/or experience in animal welfare, science, or public policy Philosophical harmony with our mission, vision, values, and strategic directions. Volunteering Conditions • Work is completed from home or another quiet location. • Comfortable seating, ergonomic setup and adequate lighting is beneficial. • Stable and secure internet connection required. • Backup plan for connectivity issues such as a mobile hotspot • Access to a private space where confidential information can be handled/viewed securely. Time Commitment • Flexible, project-based time commitment. • Minimum of 10 hours per month, ideally for at least 3-6 months.
