Consumer Advisory Group for the Australian lipid (cholesterol) guidelines

The Heart Foundation is seeking volunteers to join the consumer advisory group (CAG) for the Australian lipid guideline (guideline).

The guideline will be the first Australian-adapted guideline from the Heart Foundation in over 20 years, and will help guide healthcare professionals in the prevention, diagnosis and management of high cholesterol in their clients.

The CAG will help shape the guideline by sharing their lived experience and insight to ensure the guidelines and supporting resources are clear, accessible and centred on the needs of real people living with high cholesterol.

Top ensure the guideline best meets the needs of people living in Australia, we need the input of people from a diverse range of backgrounds. We encourage those that have a lived experience of high cholesterol, and those from diverse age groups, genders, cultural backgrounds, conditions and locations from across Australia to apply.

The role does not require a background in a health field or understanding of clinical or technical concepts of terminology.

What’s involved

  • Participate in 6–8 online meetings (1 hour each) via Microsoft Teams.
  • Review documents and provide feedback between meetings.
  • Contribute to a 12–18-month project, starting Nov 2026.
  • Volunteer role, working remotely from home.

Your contribution

  • Share the perspective of consumers and people living with high cholesterol to inform guideline recommendations.
  • Review drafts for clarity, relevance and accessibility.
  • Help co-designing consumer-friendly resources.
  • Represent the consumer voice in a meaningful national project.
