North Central Branch - Computer Assistants
Are you great with technology? Like teaching use of new technology to others? Have patience? Enjoy working with a diverse population? The North Central Branch of the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library seeks volunteers to serve as Branch Computer Assistants. Branch Computer Assistants are essential in our branches to provide technology assistance to customers who are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with using equipment and software. Typical work includes assisting customers with Microsoft Office programs, internet searches, creating email accounts from free services, and navigation of the library’s online catalogue.
Responsibilities: Assist customers with logging on and finding websites, use of printers, use of copier, and email; clean computer monitors and keyboards; answer directional questions; referral of reference questions and equipment to supervisor.
Necessary skills and qualifications: Basic computer knowledge, including internet sites, using email, and printing; knowledge of library’s basic technology offerings; excellent customer service skills; ability to follow processes and procedures; ability to work with minimal supervision.
Requirements: Minimum age 13 years old; Ability to lift and carry materials; Ability to reach, bend, and stoop to reach shelves; Completed application; Interview; Background check (if 18 or older).
Time Required: 2-3 hours/day, 1 day/week
Commitment Length Required: long-term (min 1-3 months)
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday – 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
