Deer Park - Tales to Tails Volunteer
Do you have a therapy dog in your family? Do you and your therapy dog enjoy working with children? Tales to Tails Volunteers are an important part of our team, providing the opportunity to children to read to certified therapy dogs in the safe environment of the library. But, the dogs don’t do all the work! Volunteers work directly with our young patrons to help them improve their reading skills.
Responsibilities: Work with children up to age 18 who are in need of assistance in developing reading skills; act as liaison for personal therapy dog to create a safe environment for both animal and child; encourage continued growth and development in assigned child’s reading skills; advocate for and encourage participation in library activities
Necessary skills and qualifications: Excellent listening skills; good with children; excellent customer service; patience; former educator a plus
