Marketing/Promotion
Marketing Activities
Help get animals adopted by marketing them! This team photographs, videos, and write bios of the animals for ads such as Petfinder, Instagram, League City Pet of the Week, Facebook, and other media relations and social media. Have fun working side by side with volunteers and fosters writing funny and clever pet descriptions (sometimes from the pet’s perspective), to be used for cage cards and ads. Graphic Designers are also always needed on the team!
Our community outreach positions do require specific capabilities.
Photography
Want to help market our animals? LCAS is looking for volunteer photographers that can take photos of our dogs and cats. Since a good photo is often the thing that gets a dog or cat their forever home, we need the photos weekly. It would also be great for someone looking to gain photography and editing experience in college.
*You must have a professional camera and some experience taking and editing photos. But if you have the passion and patience, we are willing to work with you as you improve your skills. We are also willing to write letters of recommendation, provided a good amount of service hours are completed.
Bio Writing
“Instead of depending on inaccurate breed labels, we want people to choose their future companions based on accurate personality profiles.” - Dr. Amy Marder. Help us highlight each animals personality and remove the biases based on their looks by helping with bio writing. Volunteers write bios on every animal in our care to help promote them for adoption.
Graphic Designer
Creating collateral materials that attract potential adopters to our adoptable animals, inspire people to volunteer or foster, touch the heartstrings of people to generate donations. This is how you can be a super hero and save lives!
Videography
LCAS is looking for a videographer to make a minimum of two professional videos a week to spotlight one dog and one cat for adoption. This can include animals in the shelter and in foster care. Also, create videos for upcoming events and promotions. Edgy, creative and fun is what we want!
Cat Program
Cat Activities
LCAS has an activity that benefits our dogs for just about any cat lover! The activities range from marketing and promoting our cats to socializing and even clicker training. Every activity is important and crucial to our ability as an organization to save each of these lives.
Our cat handling positions do require specific capabilities.
Cat Enrichment
Enrich the lives of our cats at LCAS by joining the enrichment team. The team includes enrichment activities such as in-kennel enrichment, games and more for our cats that need the extra attention to get them adopted.
*Additional training is required
Cat Marketing
Help get cats adopted by marketing them! Our cat marketing team photographs and videos the cats for the website, gathers information about them, writes bios, and posts ads to websites like Petfinder.
Feline Friend
Ensure LCAS cats and kittens get the care and TLC the need (and deserve) every day. Volunteers help with cleaning, socializing, and providing a lap for our cats to enjoy. *Additional training is required
Jackson Galaxy Cats Positive Program
Developed by Jackson Galaxy and a team of animal behavior experts, The Jackson Galaxy Project’s Cat Pawsitive is a mojo-enhancing, positive-reinforcement clicker training initiative that enriches day-to-day life for cats in shelters, builds new skills for cats as well as shelter staff and volunteers, promotes the human-cat bond, and helps improve adoptability. By utilizing positive, reward-based Cat Pawsitive training, a shelter volunteer or staff member can reduce the stresses that might keep a cat from connecting with an adopter. LCAS was accepted into the program Winter of 2019 *Additional training is required
Condo Crew

It takes approximately one hour to clean and play with kittens. We currently have six stores in League City, Clear Lake City, and Kamah.

General Shelter Support
General Shelter Support Activities
There are several behind the scenes activities that desperately need volunteer help on a daily basis. These activities involve the day to day demands needed to care for the animals at the shelter such as laundry, bowl cleaning, donation sorting and more. These small efforts of volunteer work go a long ways into ensuring the animals in our care are safe, happy, and healthy.
Laundry
The LCAS is looking for reliable volunteers to assist in our busy laundry room. Volunteers wash and fold pet bedding and clean and disinfect dishes, toys and other pet items utilizing a commercial dishwasher. Volunteers play a vital role in cutting down on the spread of illness by making sure all items are clean and sanitary.
Donation Sorting
LCAS is grateful for every donation given to us and we are so lucky to have such a generous community. To ensure that every donation given to us is properly used, we rely on volunteers to sort, organize, and distribute these donations to there proper location in the shelter. It is a daily undertaking needed by volunteers so we can utilize every donation where it is most needed.
Food Storage Organization
No kibble left behind! We want to ensure that every food donation given to us is used either by the shelter animals, animals in foster care, or with partnered wildlife rescues. To ensure food is being used in a safe manner such as before expiration dates, sealing opened containers, etc. we need volunteers to help keep everything organized.
Kennel Cleaning
Volunteers help control the spread of harmful diseases by working to keep the building clean and disinfected. Duties may include cleaning cat cages or dog kennels, sweeping, washing floors and walls, etc.
Foster Parent
Foster A Pet
Fosters provide a temporary home for pets in LCAS’s care while they are awaiting their forever home or the opportunity to move into one of our onsite or offsite adoption locations. Foster parents save hundreds of lives each year by opening their homes and hearts to help our shelter animals. We provide all supplies and any necessary medications.
Short Term Fostering vs Long Term Fostering
Short Term Fostering
Scared of commitment? Fostering doesn’t have to be a long term commitment. You can foster for as short as an hour to just a weekend. Our Dog Day Getaway Program or our Pajama Pawty Program.
Long Term Fostering
Our long term foster parents helps our young, ill, injured, abused or under socialized animals. Long term fostering usually ranges anywhere from one to eight weeks.
