Palliative Care Queensland (PCQ) is the peak advocacy organisation promoting quality palliative care for all Queenslanders. Our signature program is Ambulance Wish Queensland fulfilling last wishes for people
across the state. We provide state-wide community education, information and support to individuals,
organisations and the palliative care sector.
 
We were founded in 1988 and have since committed ourselves to supporting the individuals, families,
carers, community members as well as specialist and generalist healthcare professionals who need
access to trusted, considerate palliative care in Queensland.

 

PCQ volunteers help in the following ways:

  • General office / Administration support (eg., database, packing resources etc)
  • Supporting the Ambulance Wish Queensland Program
  • Supporting events, marketing and engagement initiatives
  • Being a consumer representation on committees
  • Participating in policy working groups and policy panels
  • Undertaking research

PCQ welcomes volunteers of all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience.

 

Please note that PCQ is not a palliative care service provider, which means there are no direct patient support volunteer roles.

Our Volunteering Opportunities

General Office / Administration Support

This role involves providing general office administrative support across all PCQs teams. This might include database entry, filing, scanning, photocopying, compiling education packs etc.

Ambulance Wish Queensland Program

The purpose of Ambulance Wish Queensland is simple: to give Queenslanders living with a life-limiting condition the opportunity to fulfil a last wish. To fulfil Wishes we need the help of specialised volunteers. 

Required Skills and Attributes:

Lead Paramedic: The purpose of this role is to provide the Paramedic lead, managing the health-related transport and transfer, equipment and provide support to the Clinical Escort for the Wish.

  • Current employment with Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) as a Paramedic minimum three years qualified
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Current blue card
  • Drivers license

Transport Assistant: The purpose of this role is to provide the Wish Transport Assistance and operates under the supervision and mentorship of the Wish Lead Paramedic to provide the health-related transport, transfer, equipment and support for the Wish.

  • Student paramedic, student nurse, nurse or doctor
  • Queensland driver’s license
  • National Police Check
  • Current blue card
  • Immunisation record (as per requirements for Palliative Care Queensland)

Support Officer: The purpose of this role is to provide the Wish support assistance and operates under the supervision and mentorship of the identified Wish Lead to provide the wish coordination for the Wish.
