South Calgary Health Centre Urgent Care Wayfinding - Off Site Location

This position is located at the South Calgary Health Centre Urgent Care in Sundance (SE Calgary) 

Purpose:

Volunteer involvement is a valuable component of the program.  Serving as ambassadors of Alberta Health Services, Urgent Care volunteers will assist staff by providing care and comfort for patients and their families. Urgent Care volunteers will be supporting the Triage Nurse and Admitting department by preparing patients waiting to be seen and help facilitate patient flow as well as wayfinding throughout the site.

Role and Responsibilities:

Urgent Care volunteers may do any of the following, depending on specific program needs:     

  • Greet patients/families/visitors entering the facility and provide information, services and direction and/or accompany patients/families/public to specific areas within the facility.  
  • Volunteers assist patients/families within the department to locate required services and to help these patients feel less anxious while waiting to be seen.  
  • Responsible for streamlining wait process and facilitate a calm, safe environment.  
  • Provide guidance and support in a helpful manner and have the ability to remain calm when assisting patients and family members who may be upset, anxious, or demanding.
  • Participate in appropriate social activities and provide companionship if required. 
  • Follow instructions and specific department guidelines of each facility and review the Volunteer Communication binder before each shift. 
  • Assist the department with general administration and clinic tasks, including stocking of supplies and sanitizing high touch areas if necessary, etc. 

Shift Availability:

  • Weekdays & Weekends
  • 8 am - 11 am
  • 11 am - 2 pm 
  • 2 pm - 5 pm
  • 5 pm - 8 pm
