Kingston Centre -Volunteer - Montessori for Aging & Dementia Care

Make a difference in the lives of older people with Dementia. We are recruiting volunteers to support our Dementia project.  Full training provided.

Volunteers play a valuable role in the care of older people in hospital settings. Volunteers can positively impact older people’s wellbeing during their hospital stay including people living with dementia. Monash Health has partnered with Monash University to pilot a Montessori for Ageing and Dementia Care training program. This program is built from evidence and is designed to support Monash Health Volunteers to engage with older people in ways that are meaningful and purposeful.

Montessori for ageing and dementia care is a person-centred approach to care that provides opportunities for older people to engage in activities that are meaningful and purposeful to them, respect their differences and abilities, and promote and maintain independence, skills, abilities, and social connection.

Engaging with dementia and delirium patients:

  • Helps reduce acute delirium experienced in hospitals
  • Helps to reduce behavioural symptoms in patients living with dementia
  • Enhances quality of life, provides connection and improves consumer experience

Monash Health is providing our Volunteers with the opportunity to participate in the Montessori for Ageing and Dementia Care training program in early 2025. This training will support Volunteers with the knowledge and skills to feel confident to meaningfully engage patients and build connections with older people as part of their role.

If you can commit 3-4 hours a week, come volunteer with us and make a difference. You will have a significant role to play in the lives of our vulnerable and ageing community.

This role is based at Kingston Centre
