East County Library: Creative Learning Program Assistant (age 18+)
Calling all Makers! Multnomah County Library seeks creative volunteers to assist patrons with creative projects in the East County Library Creative Learning room. The room provides access to innovative technology, equipment and software. We aim to inspire patrons to create - using their hands, provided tools and supplies, and imaginations! Volunteers and staff provide a welcoming environment so patrons are supported as they learn and create.
Time Commitment: 2-4 times per month for 2-3 hours per month depending on position
Available shifts:
Tween program on Tuesday, 3:15- 5:15pm, weekly
Adult program on Wednesdays evenings, 5:30pm- 7:45pm, 4 times per month
Kids and Family on Thursday, 3:15pm- 5:15pm, weekly
Teen Drop in Friday, 2:15- 5:45, weekly
Age requirement: 18 years or older
Location: East County Library, 475 NW Division St., Gresham, OR 97030
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Greet patrons and help them get oriented to the space
- Assist library staff with set up and clean up
- Provide a welcoming environment for patrons
- Support patrons working on self-directed
- Train patrons on safety rules and equipment use
- Assist patrons with small technical issues on devices
- Instruct, participate, or play as needed
Skills & Qualifications
- Welcoming and and engaging demeanor
- Ability to work and talk effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds
- Intermediate technology skills - comfortable using computers for internet browsing and basic troubleshooting
- Enthusiastic about learning new skills and enjoys creative problem solving
- Comfortable with asking questions and learning throughout the creation process
- Patient, flexible, reliable, compassionate, encouraging. Someone who enjoys celebrating the successes of others
- English language fluency
Training & Other Requirements
- Library staff will teach you how to use creative learning equipment
- Shadow at least one Creative Learning program
- Site orientation and review of volunteer program policies and procedures
- Pass criminal record check
