Northwest Library: Teen Space Youth Program Assistant (12-18 years old)
Are you a teen that wants to help make the Teen Space at Northwest Library more dynamic? We need your help creating interactive program elements, assisting with programs, maintaining bulletin boards, creating book displays and more!
Location: Northwest Library, 2030 Pettygrove St, Portland, OR 97209
Time Commitment: Flexible, 2-4 hours per week on one afternoon per week on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday between 4:00 pm and closing.
Age Requirement: Volunteers must be between 12-18 years old or in middle or high school.
Responsibilities:
- Welcoming teens to the teen space and informing adults of the purpose of the teen space
- Developing project ideas for the teen space like activities and teen mini-programs/clubs
- Co-creating a friendly and vibrant Teen Space with the youth librarian
- Managing the teen supplies like the craft materials, board games and assisting with the Nintendo Switch
- Assisting with book displays
- Additional responsibilities may include: Assisting with craft prep duties (cutting, copying, collecting, etc.) Assisting with collection maintenance (evaluating children's materials for condition, light cleaning or mending of materials; maybe a bit of straightening, shelving or rearranging the collection on occasion).
Qualifications:
- Reliability and ability to commit to a weekly shift
- Ages 12 - 18 or in middle school or high school
- Flexible and enjoy working on a variety of projects
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to fluently speak English

Training & Other Requirements
- Onsite orientation and review of volunteer program policies and procedures.
- Complete online training modules.
- Review all volunteer policies and procedures.
- Wear your name badge while volunteering.
- Log time spent volunteering every shift
- Communicate with staff when you aren’t able to volunteer.
