Midland Library: Creative Learning Maker Drop-In Support (age 18+)
Multnomah County Library seeks creative and reliable volunteers to provide assistance to patrons at drop in Creative Learning programming focused on laser cutting. Volunteers and staff provide a welcoming environment so patrons are supported as they learn and create. All equipment, software, and supplies are provided by the library.
Location
- Midland Library, 805 SE 122nd Ave, Portland, OR 97233
Time commitment: 2 shifts per month for a minimum of 6 months.
Shifts available:
Midland Library, 2 Thursdays per month, 3:00 - 5:00 pm (Laser Cutting)
Age requirement: 18+
Tasks and responsibilities
- Greet patrons and help them get oriented to the space
- Assist library staff with set up and clean up
- Provide a welcoming environment for patrons
- Support patrons working on self-directed projects including 3D printing and laser cutting
- Train patrons on safety rules and equipment use
Skills and qualifications
- Welcoming and and engaging demeanor
- Ability to work and talk effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds
- Intermediate technology skills - comfortable using computers for internet browsing and basic troubleshooting
- Enthusiastic about learning new skills and enjoys creative problem solving
- Comfortable with asking questions and learning throughout the creation process
- Patient, flexible, reliable, compassionate, encouraging. Someone who enjoys celebrating the successes of others
- English language fluency
Training and other requirements
- Library staff will teach you how to use creative learning equipment
- Shadow at least one Creative Learning drop-in session
- Site orientation and review of volunteer program policies and procedures
- Pass criminal record check
