Central Library: Teen Space Program Assistant (youth only, age 12-18)
Volunteers will help make the teen space more dynamic by creating interactive program elements like craft in-a-box activities, assisting with mini-programs, maintaining bulletin boards and creating book displays. This role is for volunteers who are between 12 and 18 years old.
Location: Central Library, 801 SW 10th Avenue, Portland, OR 97205
Time Commitment: One time per week
Age Requirement: 12 - 18 years old
Available Shifts: Monday - Friday between 3 and closing or on the weekends
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Welcoming teens to the teen space
- Developing project ideas for the teen space like activities and teen mini-programs
- Co-creating a friendly and vibrant teen space with the teen librarian
- Managing the teen cart that holds school supplies, craft materials, and board games
- Answering questions regarding library resources, if needed
- Assisting with book displays
- Assist with craft prep duties (cutting, copying, collecting, and for the right candidate
- Assist with collection maintenance (evaluating children's materials for condition, light cleaning or mending of materials; maybe a bit of straightening, shelving or rearranging the collection on occasion
Skills & Qualifications
- Reliability and ability to commit to a weekly shift
- Minimum 12 - 18
- Flexible and enjoy working on a variety of projects
- Ability to work independently
