Gregory Heights Library: Children’s Displays Team (age 12-18)

The Children’s Displays Team helps to create an inclusive and welcoming space in the Gregory Heights Library. The team works together to create new content for the children’s area bulletin board and the lobby display case. Content will focus on literacy, library events, equity, and diversity. This role is ideal for someone who is creative and likes to collaborate on projects.

Location: Gregory Heights Library, 7921 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR 97213 

Time commitment: 1-hour monthly meeting with the team, 2 to 15 hours working on gathering or making materials for display per month, 2 hours in the library branch setting up displays with the team. 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively decide on display themes and messages.
  • Create a cohesive design that reflects display themes. This could include drawing, sculpting, designing, tracing, or collecting. 
  • Create displays that reflect the diversity of the library’s community.
  • Install the design in the library.
  • Fulfill agreed upon volunteer commitment or give supervisor sufficient notice if unable to complete assignment.
  • Monthly planning meetings happen in-person at the library.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Must be at least entering 6th grade or be between 12 - 18 years. 
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated artistic or design talent preferred.
