Troutdale Library: Branch Assistant (age 16+)

Help move library materials from being checked out to back on the shelves. Depending on what is needed, this may include checking-in books, sorting materials, verifying the order of books on shelves, helping to find library materials, and other tasks.

Available shift:

  • Tuesdays 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Time Commitment: Weekly, for a minimum of 3 months. 

Location: Troutdale Library, 2451 SW Cherry Park Rd, Troutdale, OR 97060 

Tasks & Responsibilities (may vary by library location)

  • Check in books and other library materials.
  • Sort books in preparation for shelving.
  • Assist with shelving and/or shelf reading and maintenance.
  • Verify order of materials on shelves and correctly re-shelve materials that are out of order.
  • Check materials for condition and completeness.
  • Search the shelves for books and materials.
  • Remove the books and materials from the shelves and put them on a book truck.
  • Note if you are unable to locate an item.
  • Scan items into the computer.
  • Pack library materials and prepare for transport.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Be familiar with computers
  • Comfortable with Dewey Decimal order
  • Familiarity with library organizational systems
  • Able to sort/file alphabetically and numerically
  • Able to lift, bend, stoop and reach
  • Ability to work independently once trained but also be part of a team
  • Accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Be able to interact with the public 
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
