Multiple locations: Summer Program Support (age 18+)
Volunteers are needed to assist with a variety of tasks behind the scenes that keep Summer Reading running smoothly from start to finish! Summer Reading is an incentive program to encourage kids and teens to read all summer long. As one of the library’s largest youth engagement programs, it takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work to make it a success.
Time commitment: a two-hour shift per week, from June 15 to August 20
Age requirement: 16+
Available locations and shifts : Volunteers needed at Gregory Heights Library, East County Library, Holgate Library, Midland Library, North Portland Library, Northwest Library, Sellwood-Moreland Library, and St Johns Library. Shift times will vary by library location.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Enter Summer Reading data into Beanstack (reader tracking system)
- Assist with volunteer time entry into Better Impact (volunteer database)
- Assist staff with scheduling volunteers for open shifts, if requested
- Support inventory tracking and restocking of Summer Reading materials
- Assist library staff with behind the scene tasks as needed. For example assisting with volunteer party preparation and Summer Reading wrap up.
Skills & qualifications
- Age 16 or older
- Basic technology knowledge - comfortable using computers
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and to collaborate with fellow volunteers and staff
- Enthusiastic about learning new skills and enjoy creative problem solving
- Comfortable asking questions
- Fluency in written and spoken English
