Midland Library: Dungeon Master for Tween and Teen D&D Clubs (age 18+)

Calling on experienced Dungeon Masters! We’re looking for you to lead the Dungeons & Dragons Clubs at Midland Library. Attendees are tweens (8-12) and teens (13-18). As the DM, you will help them create characters, work together, fight bad guys, and get the loot! Do you accept this quest?

Location: Midland Library, 805 SE 122nd Ave., Portland, OR 97233

Shifts available: 

  • Tween (8-12) D&D Club: Fridays, 4-6 pm
  • Teen (13-18) D&D Club: Fridays, 4-6 pm

Time commitment: Meet twice a month for six months. 

Responsibilities

  • Greet patrons and help them get oriented to the space.
  • Offer assistance or lead players through a D&D campaign.
  • Create a safe and positive environment for players to learn and play with confidence.
  • Explain game objectives and goals to new players.
  • Provide guidance for strategies by communicating with players in the game while playing with others.
  • Share ideas and goals of games in a way that moves players forward in a fun and collegial environment.
  • Encourage conversation between players.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Welcoming and engaging demeanor.
  • Ability to work and talk effectively with tweens and teens.
  • Reliable and consistent.
  • Patient with communication and interactions.
  • Creative mind and problem-solving skills.
  • Friendly and positive attitude.
  • Able to explain information to diverse groups.
  • Creative and open to learning new things.
  • Experience working with children or a desire to learn.

Training & Other Requirements

  • Age 18 or older.
  • Ability to work independently to facilitate the program.
  • A volunteer application must be completed before becoming a volunteer.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check. Results of the records check will be reviewed on an individualized basis. A conviction is not an automatic bar to volunteering.
  • Site orientation and review of volunteer program policies and procedures.
  • Wear your volunteer badge and fill out a timesheet every time you volunteer.
