Volunteer Opportunities

Donor Centre/Mobile Volunteer

As a Donor Centre Volunteer, you’ll greet donors with a warm smile, engage them in conversation, and accompany them throughout their donation process, ensuring a positive experience.

This is an ongoing, long-term commitment

  • Edmonton: By applying, please include your availability.   We are reviewing all volunteer applications and will contact you based on projected operational shift availability.

  • Red Deer: We’re actively recruiting volunteers for shifts on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays

  • Barrhead, Wetaskiwin, and other Alberta communities: Volunteers are needed for mobile blood drives, with a variety of shifts available

In-Community Awareness Volunteer

As an in-community volunteer, you’ll attend local events and help raise awareness about the need for blood and blood products. This role focuses on community outreach.

We are recruiting individuals who are available during various daytime hours, and able to travel within the City of Edmonton. We are also looking for volunteers in areas around Spruce Grove, Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, and St. Albert.

With various shifts in different locations tailored to operational recruitment needs, this is a meaningful way to connect with people and make a difference. Please indicate your availability and preferred locations on your application form to help us match you with suitable opportunities.

If you submit an application, we’ll reach out as opportunities arise. If we don’t connect right away, feel free to reapply in three months.

Post-Secondary Clubs

Our Post-Secondary Club volunteers recruit donors on post-secondary campuses.

Leadership opportunities are available with various roles and flexible schedules.

We are currently recruiting for the Red Deer Youth Leadership Team, so if that’s something you’d be interested in, please let me know!

Stem Cell Volunteer Recruiter

Our stem cell volunteers play an integral part in spreading awareness about Canadian Blood Services' stem cell registry. They promote the need for more people aged 17-35 to join the stem cell registry and host swabbing events for people to join the registry.

Schedules vary in this role and some regions have more opportunities than others.  Please note: if you choose to submit your application, we will reach out based on our operational needs. If we don't connect right away, please feel free to resubmit in three months.

Mission Statement

It is critical that we attract 1 million new donors in the next 5 years to meet the rising health system and patient needs. We can achieve this, but it will require a new approach. Our new brand platform, Who's Saving Who?, which launched May 8th, is intended to spark conversations and motivate people to donate.

About Us:

Together, with donors, recipients, employees, partners, and volunteers, we are Canada's lifeline.  Our role is to provide lifesaving products and services in transfusion and transplantation for Canadian patients, and to safeguard Canada's systems of life essentials in blood, plasma, stem cells, and organs and tissues.

We acknowledge that the work of Canadian Blood Services spans many Territories and Treaty areas across the country, and we are grateful for the Traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who have guided us in this important work. We recognize the land and waters that have inspired our work and offer gratitude to those Indigenous peoples on whose territory we work, live and play.
